We drove the road to Hana last week of January this year and everything was all dried up, I hope they have had some more rain. All the pools were dry so we didn't even stop to pay for the parking to see it. The road is not bad at all just dump trucks that were annoying, going to Hana to do some asphalt work. We drove back the road south and that was narrow in places but driveable. I would not reccomend driving the road along the north side of West Maui on my worst enemy. We drove East to West and it was the most hair raising nevre rattling time of my life, I was wishing I could walk out instead. I can't count the number of times we had to back up along a narrow section of road that would not accomidate two cars until we found a small turn out that left about an inch of clearance between the cars with us almost hanging off the road with the ocean on the right side ready to take us! It was so scary. would never do it again ever! No gardrails along much of it and always looking ahead to see who is comming down the road from the other direction, you couln't enjoy any of the scenic vistas let alone any of the stops you want to make to see all the things Maui Reveled tells you to see. See Hana instead if you are worried about roads, it is a piece of cake after that drive.
