sorry, I'll try to be more specific.
My company is purchasing a ticket to LHR and asked me what carrier I would prefer. Last year, the same thing happened and I'd picked BA, thinking that the OW alliance would earn miles. Didn't realize that because AA and BA fly to LHR, you don't get AA miles.
So, this year, I'm trying not to make the same mistake. I started my AA accrual many years ago, but I don't particularly care for the airline anymore. But, I still earn miles because they fly routes that I have to take often.
I'd like my transatlantic experience to be nice. I don't do them often, and I don't think I'll get that on AA.
So, I was looking for alternatives to give my company that wouldn't be too costly and would earn miles.
Was thinking about Lufthansa and/or Virgin Atlantic at this point.
IMHO the quality of the Y product on AA is not substantially different from BA (both pretty middle of the road) unless you really care about free alcohol. YMMV.
