If you are game, I would definitely exit the terminal and check out the The Burj Khalifa tower as well as the other surrounding buildings. This is an unbelievable experience that can not be substituted by looking at photographs.
As of this writing, the tower is closed down due to electrical issues and you can not take a "trip to the top". Standing outside of it and looking up will give you a true appreciation of what an extraordinary accomplishment this was in erecting this masterpiece. The best viewing point is outside the nearby (approximately 300 yards) Dubai Mall (12 million sq ft) where you could easily spend a half day and only see a small portion of it.
+1 re: 'lounge comment' and the 'go out and enjoy' comment. I've transited through Dubai a number of times - ranging from one hour fifteen minutes (minimum connection time - again this Saturday) to 12+ hours. Get out if you can - easy to do so as a US citizen.
I'd suggest going out and enjoying yourself (just give yourself ample time to get back).
