CO doesn't fly to SYD so you will be on UA or QF out of SFO or LAX. FF award availability is tricky, if you have fixed travel dates you'll probably want to just buy the tickets. Don't know if you can use CO miles to upgrade on these UA flights; definitely not on QF.
