Given that the Shuttle flights (between New York and Boston or New York and Washington DC) discharge passengers from both the front and rear doors (and quite quickly, I might add), I've wondered frequently why carriers don't try this. It wouldn't solve the boarding problem, but it would decrease the overall turnaround time of the aircraft.
