I had this happened to me. I rented a van and only drove in North and South Carolina. About a month after the rental, I received a notice from ATS saying I ran two tolls in Illinois and charged me $41.60 for the violations plus a $30 administration fee. I contacted Hertz and they told me to contact ATS. I then contacted ATS and they said they couldn't do anything because they had a picture of my license plate. I then contacted the Illinois Toll Authority and requested pictures of my apparent tag number because I know I was nowhere near Illinois. I got the pictures and it was a totally different car with one number totally different from the tag number I had. I then faxed the pictures to Hertz and ATS and they said they would contact me back in a few days. Didn't hear from them. I then started a dispute with American Express and told them the situation and they immediately removed the charge off my card. I then hear from ATS a month after that and they told me they were about to remove the charge, but I had already done a dispute. You have to stay on top of them because they will screw you.
