I rarely book the advanced purchase rate but the last few times, I was not charged immediately but rather I was charged when I checked in. In fact one of my most recent stays (i think it was in austin), the front desk made a point to note that the charges don't actually take place until I check in.

Today I noticed a week-long reservation for next month was already charged and when I try to look at the reservation - it has the fun note "cant view bla bla".

What's the standard procedure for the advanced bookings? Should I always just expect an immediate charge upon booking?
