Staying in the same neighborhood as before, check availability at the Hotel Canal St. Martin as I posted earlier. I liked the rooms and found the prices to be good.
Otherwise, I have liked the Etap Hotel Paris Porte d'Italie Est as a cheap alternative in the past. It's on the Paris beltway loop and near the Porte d'Italie metro stop. They seem to generally have good availability, also at decent prices.
