I would be very surprised if all the beef that certain well known outlets sell or serve is actually what they claim it to be.
One can have a Aberdeen Angus steak advertised on the menu and customers automatically assume it comes from north of the border so are prepared to pay a premium price for it. As it is one of the most farmed breeds of cattle in South America the chances of it not coming from Scotland are pretty high.
Truth be told one would find it very hard to track down the true identity and history of a imported carcass anyway.
