Taxes on UA/CO reward flights from USA to Europe

Folks,

In November 2009, Skywards informed me that a USA to Europe RT ticket would cost me 50,000 miles + about $135 in taxes. Now, when I am trying to book a ticket, Skywards informs me that I would have to fork out some $375 in taxes. I understand a bulk of these taxes is YQ taxes for fuel surcharge. Should I be charged fuel charges on reward tickets?

This is unfair. If I had collected points on CO or UA instead of on EK, I'd have to pay 55,000 miles and $125 on either CO or UA.

Has anybody else paid such high taxes on reward RT tickets between USA and Europe?

Thanks!
-Roger
