I'd also suggest Great Queen Street restaurant in Covent Garden for similar excellent British food.

WRT to Wetherspoons, I fear for the product quality when the offer is a glass of wine steak and chips for GBP6 when you consider the substantial additional costs incurred serving food v selling it. A friend of mine was mightly offended that someone could even compare to M&S (or Waitrose). Lots of words like growth hormones, animal welfare, product storage, added salt, preservatives all came flowing forth.

Personally I found Le Gavroche too up itself. Happy to dress up but to insist I have to eat wearing my jacket is just too far. The food was good but not that good.
