If CO were to go all-widebody to Hawaii, SNA-HNL/OGG service would be a non-starter. No commercial widebody is capable of operating a route of that length out of SNA with a reasonable load.
Lately, narrowbody service from the West Coast to Hawaii has been the rule rather than the exception.
AA is presently all 757 from LAX/SFO to Hawaii.
DL has a 767 on only one LAX-HNL frequency, virtually everything else is 757-300.
AS is all 737 to Hawaii.
UA still has extensive widebody service, and fortunately earn 100% EQM. It's pretty clear that while the traveling public might have a preference for widebodies, it is certainly not impacting their plans.
