While it's good that you seem to be happy with the result, it looks like it was actually poor service, given the circumstances.
You can't get a partial refund on a lower fare on the flight, if you are rebooking b/c of a cancelation. This is what is considered an even exchange in IROP situations. It's like asking you for the difference of the higher fare excpet in this case their was a lower fare available. Truthfully, the agent should have never issued the credit voucher. If you weren't flying a portion or not flying at all then you could get the partial/full refund. Hindsight shows that it was a bad move for the agent for "trying" to be helpful b/c it ended up as less as a refund the second time around.
