I spent some time flying LHR-CAI-LHR-JFK-LHR weekly (sorry, environment) and gave up eating on planes. I'd just eat the old packets of oatcakes (now sadly gone). I did, however, always help myself to coffee. I got to know the galley layout pretty well, and could find my own mug, use the release mechanism on the coffee pot and serve myself. Most of the time, the crew thought it was pretty funny that they had a passenger who knew their way around so well and would just sit back and smile. On just one occassion did I have a particularly uptight CSD who stopped me and told me off (but that was one flight out of ~50 in this three month period of having clients in NYC and Cairo).

So, my point, I guess, is you can always have coffee. I've been considering get a little personal travel cafetiere and bringing fresh coffee with me. But I figure it might just seem horribly pretentious, so I just keep drinking the filth!
