It might be standard for split tickets, but it's certainly not standard in my experiences on other carriers with a through ticket. To me it defies logic to say that I can carry 2 x 32 kg as far as Paris, but then I'm required to leave about half of it behind for the flight to Nice.
Basically, unless I leave a bag in Paris, it means the effective baggage allowance for the whole trip gets cut in half...
Stopover or not, BA always gives me the 3 bag allowance even on shorthaul flights when it's part of a longhaul C or F ticket. Even TAM and LAN (neither of whom would miss a chance to nick you for a baggage fee) both honor piece-system allowances on domestic or short haul segments that were part of the same ticket as my flights to/from North America (even though the days were different).
Rather ridiculous, really.
Does anyone know why my e-ticket receipt shows piece system as applying to the whole itinerary, when in fact AF apparently decides it doesn't?
