I'm with the 'the fewer, the better' crowd and also agree that on occasion. the flight deck announcements have been difficult to hear. Of course, the cabin crew announcements should be in English and the destination language, though I was mighty impressed when the captain or No 1 spoke fluent German.

I find announcements about points of interest close to landing of interest, but find them disturbing en route. OTOH I was able to 'announce' to c.c. a total eclipse of the moon once - oh, for the opportunity of joining the flight deck!

IMO, there have been some positive enhancements to BA inflight recently, including the virtual lack of any spoken announcements saying 'the captain has switched on the seatbelt signs etc' . Just the ding followed quietly by the c.c. checks that we're all belted up. Unlike our US cousins where the light comes on at the drop of a hat, followed by the numerous cabin announcements to belt up. Most disturbing, especially overnight.

I'd vote for an equivalent of UA's Channel 9 in the IFE - talkback between flight deck and ATC, and other planes too.

How about a fanfare with the message 'yet another on time arrival'? (Sorry, wrong forum.)
