First of all, from a technical perspective you can offer multiple levels of service over a common network infrastructure. The network equipment (switches, routers, dslams, etc.) can be configured to allocate different amounts of bandwidth to different ports/users.

Some properties already do this by offering a premium level Internet Service for a fee in addition to the basic complimentary service offerred. It would be nice if they would automatically give golds & plats this level of service for free. That said, hotels in general need to look at their Internet service and generally upgrade it. Demand has gone up a lot over the past few years while the Hotel Internet service appears to have remained static resulting in the poor experience many of us see at many properties. This issue is not unique to Marriott. I have about the same hit rate on good vs. bad Internet service at Hilton properties as Marriott properties. YMMV....
