I echo the sentiments above. I think we're all getting carried away with the whole notion of justifying free upgrades. That is not the dilemma at hand here. The issue here is that the "purser" was conducting himself in an unprofessional manner. If you're interested in a customer, and this happens in all industries, that's ok, leave them a note, tell them to meet you afterwards, give them your number, etc. Getting your shmooze on while on-duty in clear view of other customers is disrespectful and unprofessional.
