Dar Milouda

No doubt about it, you need to stay at Dar Milouda. It's beautiful; it's in an excellent location in the medina; it is gay run, with a mostly straight, gay-friendly Moroccan staff. It doesn't fly the rainbow flag, but it is warm and welcoming. Monsieur Jean, the tastefully flamboyant Frenchman who runs the place, is discretion personified, loved by his staff and neighbors, and knowledgeable about everything in Marrakech, where he has lived for decades. He can send you to exactly the right spot to get your argan oil or your black soap for being scrubbed in the hammam, find you a perfect spot for dinner and loads more besides.

The last time I celebrated a passing decade, I had my birthday party there. We took the place over for a long weekend, and couples or singles, straight or gay, all had a great time. One gay couple stayed an extra week and the kitchen staff was thrilled to show them the secrets of making tagine. I head back there, even for a couple of days, whenever I need to recharge my batteries.

The website is here: http://www.darmilouda.com/

Feel free to PM me more info.

And bon voyage!
