Things work differently if one is based outside the USA. But the best place to start is always the local sales office and one of the reps. If you can show them you will be flying an intercontinental flight on AA in the coming weeks, a comp to Gold with the Platinum Challenge will certainly be obtainable, subject to any other minor requirements [proof of status on another carrier, etc.]. But considering Plat Challenge only requires 16K of travel in 90-days, this can easily be achieved by a serious traveller. Register to do it after July 15th and you keep your status through to Feb 28/2002, before that to just the end of the current benefits year unless you make the 50K requirement for renewal of that status. If not, you get bumped down a notch, to Gold. But you can only do each Challenge once.
