Since making 1k, I've yet to fly. Now that I have 6 SWUs, I'd like to use them. The base fare to ZRH and the upgradeable fare is a ~$200 difference -- worth it to me.

When do you find out if SWUs clear? Is it 5 days prior, like domestic upgrades? Or can it clear immediately? What does the clearing process depend on? Any tips to make sure your upgrade clears?

If it matters, I always fly on the cheapest tix in economy (or the cheapest upgradeable fare, for now on) and am 1k. The SWUs are mine - electronic. I usually fly BOS IAD ZRH when going to Europe.
