United Compensation - advice needed

Hello all - I'd be grateful for any advice. I'm a 1K member who was on a 2/8 UAL flight from Geneva to IAD. We knew bad weather was coming, but so everyone was eager to get out.

After 3 hrs on the runway, the almost empty fllight turned back due to tech difficulties (computer overheated. Flight attendent grumbled this had been happening for three months) The subsequent flights on the 9th and 10th were cancelled due to weather.

I cantacted United via phone and email noting that as first flight was a cancellation for mechanical reasons. Of course, no reply via email yet, but customer service rep now says its all weather related, so no compensation owed. I maintain that compensation def owed for first day 2/8 as we were told cancellation was mechanical, and possible subsequent two days as the only reason we were stuck was the original mechanical failure cancellation. Anyone argued this type of case before.

I`m a total newby at complaining to airlines (and to this forum), so don't know how to best state my case. Threads very useful.
