I flew YVR->USA last week and it was pretty empty. Mind you that was at 2:30 in the afternoon. But no more than a couple people in line at customs or security. Coming back was similar at customs. It's evident there are far more people working at the airport during Feb/early March. Lot's of extra security, customs agents, RCMP, dogs and olympic greeters, volunteers but efficient and most everyone is extraordinarily friendly right now. Even the Canadian Customs agents were smiling! Only grumpy people I encountered were the AC check in staff at YVR upon departure. They were actually rather rude. Having read on the board that security wait times at YVR in the afternoons have been minimal, I showed up 15 minutes before the cut off time (1:15 before the flight) and the Check in agents lectured me on how I'll never make my flight in time and I should have come earlier. I felt like I was being lectured by my mother. Rather uncomfortable. And naturally, I was through security, customs and in the lounge within 10 minutes! Moral of the story, don't listen to your mother...no, wait...I meant don't listen to the condescending advice of the mean AC check in lady. FT was right on the money about security times. Listen to FT.

But I digress...it will be busier for you in the AM obviously. But right now, most people are coming to YVR, not going so you should get through fairly fast. Just glad to hear you don't have luggage to check and can avoid the check in agents altogether.
