I'm a fan of sleeper trains, never done the Paris - Rome one, but it can actually maximise the time you spend in the cities. With what flight times can you have a relaxed dinner in City A and wake up for breakfast in City B?

Also... have you not heard of the "100 mph club"? Much more civilised than the mile hile club.
