Typically doesn't happen. As a matter of fact, I was able to get out of reservations even after the deadline - I am yet to be charged a no-show fee. The trick many of us here on FT know/use is to talk straight to the hotel in a situation like that. Usually the worst outcome is to have to stay at the same hotel at a later date.
