- Personally, I would never donate miles to charity through one of those online links. If I was so inclined to use my miles this way, I'd probably make a couple phone calls - perhaps to the local children's hospital or whatever - and try to find out who really needs flights and how I can help book one or two of them for their people.
But UA requires you to physically appear in an airport ticket counter to sign some waiver form, unless the person who actually travels happens to have the same name as you.
Big hassle.
