In other words; yes you can try to get compensated. I would write them a letter and see what they will do. If you are a FB member you could mention that you would like to be compensated in miles, generally they are more generous with miles than anything else.

How much compensation you can expect...no clue. Since you already received a free hotel room I doubt they will be giving out hard cash. Thats not very AF-like anyway. Vouchers or Miles are easier to get, and you will get more value from them.
