Unfortunately, airline execs used 9/11 as a way to decimate and gut most contracts at most airlines. We can go on for days here, but i'll offer one example. The FA's at DL are in the midst of a union drive, with the Ex NWA group spearheading the pro union drive. DL FA's were not given much say in how their benfits and pay were cut, as opposed to the unionized workgroups at the airlines where management had guns pointed at the heads of labor. Even the CO fa's rejected the first proposal of cuts offered to them, even though LK said all 3 groups had to vote yes or the cuts could not be implemented. 2 out of 3 was good enough for him and his cronies to wring concessions from the pilots and mechanics and if you think the pilots and mechanics aren't still fuming over that debacle, don't say you haven't been warned.
In regard to CO, gosh, I hope they don't go union on the ramp.
Care to elaborate ? Companies deserve the unions they get. How will having or not having union rampers effect the flying public? At what point does the cost cutting mentality stop? I'll be the first to say unions are far from perfect, but this industry needs protection from outsourcing and greedy management types that are solely focused on the bottom line.
