legend717 - while your personal, single case, of anecdotal evidence made for interesting evidence, the truth is, workers fired for 'very just causes' rarely get rehired. unions form to offer working men and woman a stronger position negotiating wages and benefits and a voice to mold policy. seniority, retention and promotion used to mean, to whom are you related.
and...sueing your employer for some grievance seems less sophisticated than a reasonable labor contract.
I can see why a workgroup would support a union in other industries.

I'm questioning what drives one to vote in a union in this industry post 9/11 (that being my marker for the most dramatic changes in manpower for 10+ years).

There doesn't appear to be (correct me if I'm wrong) a lot of examples where unions were able to preserve or enhance what an airline wasn't already willing to provide (or lose) with or without a union.
