Is Bukit Timah reserve a safe place to wander around very early'is say 07:00'ish or will I meet any bad boys!
The sun rises at about 7. And bad boys don't do well with sunlight. So should be ok. But low crime rate doesn't mean no crime. Always good to stay alert.
If I do take the taxi - will I be able to hail a taxi back ok - or am I now stranded?
As mentioned earlier, u would have to walk to the main Upper Bukit Timah Road to have a better chance of getting a taxi. I would like to think that the personnel working at the visitors center will be more than happy to help u with a booking for taxi. But i could be dead wrong as it has often been.
Saw your other post about food. So why not walk out to Upper Bt Timah Road, and try some of the eateries over there? The stretch of shophouses along
Cheong Chin Nam Road - opposite Beauty World Shopping Centre - are generally crowded with foodies. Can't recall what is good there. Will have to check with my buddies. PM me if u are keen to explore that option.
In addition, a traffic light down from the shophouses is Bukit Timah Hawker Centre, which has a stall that is known for its
carrot cake.
I'm interested in the surcharges.
On a week day, your working window is from 6 to 7am if u are trying to avoid the
taxi surcharges. Before 6, u will be slapped with midnite surcharge, after 7, it will be peak hour surcharge.
But as mentioned by many, it should be about 15 to 18 without surcharges in my estimate from Bugis to Bt Timah.
One thing though. Traffic on Bukit Timah Road from 6.30 to 7am can be iffy with parents dropping off their school-going kids.
Out of interest - apart from what's mentioned here, plus Botanic Gardens (and the Orchid Gardens!) - are there any other great walking areas - scenic not too busy etc I should go to?
The southern ridge hike is a great suggestion. From Hort Park to Mount Faber takes about 90min. Walk on the level of the canopy (some stretches), two interest foot bridges.
One thing about Botanic Gardens. They do conduct a
rainforest tour on every second saturday of the month. Might be the kind of activity you're interested in. And third saturday of each month is the orchid tour. All tours are conducted by volunteers and free-of-charge.
And after a walk in the park. U can either have lunch at Halia or walk across Holland Road to
Dempsey Hill where u will find a number of great eateries there.
so the suggestions for new walks are really welcome.
Hmm, would
walking on the tight rope or zipping down on a flying fox over the canopy be considered?
And how about
Wetland @ Pulau Ubin? Haven't done this yet as it is too warm to be out there without much shade. Sunlight and I don't go along well. Oh dear, the cat is out of the bag now. Just to keep u on your toes.
