bcp,
Every eligible* flight sector earns a minimum of 500 q-points. Hence, for sectors of distance 1-1000 miles, you earn 500 q-points. For a sector of 1002 miles on non-Y fares, you earn 501 q-points.
Beware that Q fares ex-Europe are considered consolidator fares and hence earn you neither miles nor points.
Another important point: to earn qualifying points/miles when flying AA codeshares, you must be ticketed as flying on an AA flight. For example, service between NRT and SIN is operated by AA codeshare JL, but you must be ticketed with AA7215 instead of JL711. Otherwise, you earn only non-qualifying miles (usually at 70% for non-Y fares) and zero qualifying point.
* Eligible flight sector: Flights on AA and other OneWorld Airlines. Also, AA codeshares ticketed with AA flight numbers.
Good luck on the Challenge!
Cheers, Maple
