I don't think it's a promotion; I think it's a benefit of being a Marriott owner. Of course, I haven't booked any award trips yet.
To the OP: Make sure when your parents order the award, they put it into the name of the person that the miles are going into, otherwise the miles need to go into the MR account holder's name.
I'd get on this if it's for summer 2010! We book Hawaii 11 months out for award flights and our timeshare availability.
