The plane with the parachute was like a smokepot before it crashed -- the videos are pretty awful. The parachute seems to slow everything down.

So far, what we've been told (the crash is a couple miles from my house) is that 3 people for sure died, but they'll keep looking tomorrow - debris field is spread over 60+ acres.

Two planes, one of which was towing a glider either at the time of collision or right before, collided in midair north west of Boulder. Not over the airport or in the immediate airport pattern.

The glider pilot released (or had just released before the crash; accounts differ) and flew through the fireball, and then managed to land at the airport. Glider Pilot and passengers (a mom and her son) are physically okay from what we're hearing.

Weather conditions were overcast but reasonably high ceiling, and there was a breeze but nothing particularly windy.

NTSB is on site -- not sure if they're at all of the sites or not, but I guess they will be. The debris sparked a couple of fires in the grasslands; those were quickly put out.

One of the planes landed a few hundred yards from a small amusement park (mini-golf, ...) and the fire there looks to have been pretty intense.

Tow plane was from the glider op at Boulder Municipal Airport.

A sad day around here.
