I think BA is merely leading the field here. It won't be long before more and more airlines will follow I'm afraid. Revenue is revenue.
I can't see other airlines following BA by charging for seat allocation in Biz to be honest.
Maybe BA thought it preferable to charge for seat allocation rather than follow most N American airlines by charging for booze in Y.
