Hello
GreyOwl,
I'm going to chime in too. AAdvantage and BA Exec Club are probably the best choices for Canadian resident
oneworld fanatics. AAdvantage may be the more generous of the two, but since you do many transatlantics you might want to go with BA EC instead as you can't earn AAdv miles on BA transatlantic flights. The alternative is to stick with AAdv, but you'd be forced to cross the pond via the US.
One further advantage of BA EC is that if you have
oneworld status (Sapphire or Emerald) with BA you can have access to AA lounges even when travelling domestic North America routes, whereas AA gives you lounge access only on "international" routes which exclude all flights within the North American zone.
Things in AAdv's favour include domestic upgrades (you won't get any with BA EC), systemwide upgrades for Exec Plats (some may argue that the value of these has diminished somewhat recently), and heavy promotion and bonuses in joint marketing with CX.
The Royal Bank has announced that starting in spring its Avion Visa card will allow 1:1 transfers of Avion points to AA or BA miles.
