I doubt the 787 will be any more reliable. Any new aircraft type has its various bugs and "features" that need to be sorted out over time.
Back to 747 vs A380 - I would choose the A380 given equal choice (but don't go out of my way to actively choose it). I perceive I feel better after travelling on it vs a 747 or other plane types.
