Actually, meal choice on AA is based on flight number not direction of flight.

ODD NUMBERS - Back to Front
EVEN NUMBERS- Front to Back

This has applied on every domestic FC and BC and international FC and BC I have been on. If it doesn't happen on a particular flight, the FA is not following procedure.
