Transportation (car, bus) in southern Patagonia

Hi,
thinking about a trip in Southern Patagonia. Want to see Perito Moreno glacier, and Fitz Roy or Torres del Paine.
First of all, if I rent a car, can I cross the Chile-Argentina border with it (will go back of course)?
Second, if I decide to use busses, are they frequent (like dayly, or less)?
What is less travel and hassle, fly to El Calafate, rent a car and drive to Torres del Paine, or fly to Punta Arenas, bus to Torres del Paine and El Calafate, then fly away? Haven't asked a travel agent to book the flights for the last one, but had trouble finding them online.
Or probably I should restrict myself to one side of the border?
Thanks
