Cathay Pacific has recently changed the bonus mileage earned on flights between the US-Hong Kong. For the year 2000, return trips in business or first earned 25,000 bonus miles and 10,000 for one way. As of January 1, 2001 the Cathay Pacific Frequent Traveler Bonus - for US members has been reduced to only 10,000 bonus miles for R/T between JFK, SFO and LAX to Hong Kong. Flights originating in Toronto will earn 30,000 R/T and Vancouver 20,000.

Of course US travelers originating in JFK are get short ended. As an Executive Platinum Member I made a real big deal about this issue, especially since all JFK originating flights make a brief stop-over in Vancouver. Still, this flight is recognized as a JFK “originating” flight and thus only 10,000 bonus miles granted and not the deserved 20,000.
