I would go 89 to Route 4 to 87. Route 4 is a slow road but quite pretty as you go through historic towns and whatnot. No ferry. Much preferable than driving halfway to Florida before turning north again.
Yeah, driving to 90 just seemed like heading to FL to go north. Ok, we'll do 89 to 4. Once we cross the NY State line, any advice? 4 seems to end at 22. So take 22 North to Ticonderoga and take 74 west to 87? 74 seems awfully long.

Obviously if a snow storm is expected, we might not head up to Maine. I need to get to Bean to get exchange a coat and I'd rather go to Freeport than the Bean outside of Albany. Actually, the Colonie, NY locale won't work because what we want is out of stock. Plus, hey, any excuse to go to Maine even for just a night....we'd love it. I assume that even with a little snow, the roads will be in great shape. People up there KNOW about salting in advance and are proactive instead of being stupidly reactive. We're looking forward to the pretty ride.
