Normally DL tends to be behind the curve on issuing waivers but often offers a longer period of waived time compared to some other airlines (AA comes to mind compared to the XMas storms).
That's helpful if you want to reschedule your trip to the future once the storm has wiped you out. Not much consolation for people who are trying to get to a wedding, bar mitzvah, cruise, etc. that cannot be rescheduled.
