RDU - St John's NL (Advice Please)

I'd like to ask for advice re: a Air Canada RDU-YYT trip, with connection in Toronto. I'm just not sure what I have to do re: customs, other clearances (each way). I'll have only carry-on bags. I'd like to give myself PLENTY of time, hopefully enough to get a bite to eat.

What will I have to do when I arrive in Toronto? Clear customs? Any other clearances? Will I need to change terminals? I'm assuming there will be no need to clear anything once I arrive in St. John's.

Can you advise on the return? Do I clear Canadian customs in YYT or YYZ? Then, what will I need to do in YYZ, making my change for the trip back to RDU?

I've searched and can find info re: entrance into Canada, but not about connecting type flights (especially on the return). Thanks.
