Marriott, unlike Starwood, will give you full elite benefits even on Priceline type stays. (I don't know how Hilton treats elites on these 3rd party pre-paid stays.) All you need to do is call Marriott with the reservation number and have them add your MR# to the reservation. You should be getting all the normal elite benefits you see on award or directly to Marriott paid stays.
Minor clarification on this issue. Yes, you do get full elite benefits DURING your stay, even for Priceline type of reservations. HOWEVER, what you do not get is points for the stay if you made the reservation through Priceline or similar.
PS. I have put business clients up in this hotel, and all of them were happy with the hotel, not a single one made a complaint about anything during their stay.
PPS. TripAdvisor is notoriously inaccurate, I have found it to be inaccurate in my own personal experience also. YMMV
