I don't think it's necessarily "likely". Would be nice. DL still doesn't offer competitive SWUs like AA and UA. They still have the 500-mile minimum that no other biggie is doing. They just introduced rollover. CO and UA added the unlimited upgrades benefit. I think it's a crap shoot. Two of 5 have it. When a third offers it then I would say Delta is likely to follow suit.
However I would expect them to gouge by making one-way 13,500 to 15,000 and not just 1/2 the amount of a R/T.
DL is not the only major US or international airline to have a 500-mile minimum. My sub-500 mile flights credited to one of my many airline program accounts come with a minimum of 500 miles for those flights; some even come with a 600 mile minimum for those same flights.
DL already price gouges on award tickets via the three-tier pricing mechanism where "low" mileage pricing is going the way of the dodo bird. 13,500 or 15,000 DL miles on a one-way award ticket would be discounting of sorts.
