Definitely - that was sort of my point upthread: with Marriott, I've never seen a case where it makes sense to set to MILES for the purposes of some sort of bonus. It's always points - both for the regular earnings, the Megabonuses, and other one-off promos as well.

With all of Hyatt, SPG, and Hilton, I have intentionally completed stays where I earned MILES - that is, as if I wasn't a member of their native program at all. Hyatt for 5k UA, SPG one time for 5k AA, and Hilton for something similar in the late 90's...pre-Conquest-bonus era.

With Hyatt, I still see the offers semi-frequently. Current one: 2.5 WN credits for 1 stay. I have not seen a Starwood offer like that in a couple years...the AA deal I got required the use of a Mastercard at the Sheraton brand only. I happened to have a one-nighter at an airport hotel (a cheap stay), so I made them erase my SPG number and pop in my AA number.
