At times it is useful... For example I didn't know of the Mandarin Oriental 5,000 mile bonus per stay, until I saw it in the paper newsletter. (Still hasn't posted to my account.) But on the other hand, if a "Specials" section like that was on the web, I'd look there first and most often. (The current AAdvantage specials section, does not list the above.)
