Are Leather Carry-on Bags a Pratical Choice?

For a long time I have been considering buying a Tumi International Carry-on bag in leather to become my primary travel bag. See here: http://www.tumi.com/alpha/international-carry-on/ In fact, when I was in KUL last week, I nearly bought one. As I was leaving the store, however, I got caught in a downpour, which made me wonder if a leather carry-on bag is a legitimate choice for someone who actually travels or if it is just a status symbol for those who travel occassionally?

My needs:

I fly 75K-100K per year, most of my trips are fairly short in duration and distance. I need to be able to carry one suit with me in a carry-on. Status symbols are pretty meaningless in my line of work and no one ever sees or cares what my bag looks like.

My current (Samsonite) 20inch rollaboard is nearing its final stanza and I will need to replace it in the next few months.

This question has led me to consider other options and I have been thinking of buying the 20inch Briggs and Riley instead. See here: http://www.briggs-riley.com/category...Upright_U420LX
