I am a new mile based EXP. I gather that the AA program did not allow milage based qualification earlier. I guess it was rather exclusive then. Perhaps, AA will start send its more valuable EXPs more upgrade certificates.

They need to be competitive with UA so they could not afford to lose the 100K fliers because of points only qualification. But it is a loss to the points based qualifiers.
