It is true. IDC Platinum card does not require you to purchase the ticket to get the travel insurance. You only need to have the card with you.
The only insurance that requires a charge to be placed on the card is the car rental insurance.
IDC insurance policy is probably the strongest of all AmEx. I think they are doing this to compensate for the lack of Elite status of FF.
