I just flew HNL-YYC in J on one of the non-XMed 767's. After I boarded the aircraft I asked one of the flight attendants to please hang my coat. She responded "there is no space to hang coats on this configuration". I could have sworn that on the outbound YYC-HNL they were able to hang my coat and the aircraft layout map on ac.com clearly shows closets. A quibble to be sure, but I hate the aircraft smell that seeps into my good work coat when I have to fold it up and put it in the overhead bin.
It is all about the crew. Each has their own idea on how to use the closet. Sometimes they fill it with crew luggage, sometimes passenger bags and sometimes coats. That config definitely has less space than the other 763s so asssume they were just taking the easy way out by saying no to everyone.
